Suspicious man found sleeping outside an apartment building in Bloomfield

A suspicious man found sleeping outside the High Rise in Bloomfield over the weekend had his cell phone plugged into an outside outlet. He was arrested by a BPD officer after a meth pipe was found in his backpack.

JARED CARLISLE KINDRED

Jared Carlisle Kindred, 24, Bloomington, was arrested by Deputy Marshal Ryan Montgomery of the Bloomfield Police Department early Saturday, August 27.

Around 1:30 AM last Saturday, Officer Montgomery responded to a report of a suspicious person at the High Rise apartments located at 100 West Main Street in Bloomfield.

When he arrived he found Kindred laying on the concrete outside of the south stairwell door entrance to the building. Kindred was sleeping and using a blue backpack as a pillow with his cell phone plugged in to an electrical outlet on the outside of the building.

When the officer walked out the south entrance door, Kindred woke up and allegedly said he did not live there but was chilling out and charging his cell phone battery. He said he knows someone who lives there. But he didn't know the person's name or their apartment number. He said he had been back and forth to the High Rise for the previous few days.

When deputies from the Greene County Sheriff's Department arrived to assist on the scene, Sergeant Jordan Allor asked Kindred for permission to search his backpack and Kindred agreed. When Deputy Caleb Sipes searched the backpack, he found a glass smoking device. It field-tested positive for methamphetamine.

Kindred allegedly said he had been clean for the last 60 days and when Sergeant Allor asked him why he had a meth pipe in his bag, Kindred allegedly said he had no idea. He said he didn't have methamphetamine in his bag and he does not have any at all. Kindred told the officers that he'd been through his bag 100 times that day and there was nothing (illegal substance or pipe) in his bag and the only time it was left alone was when he went to Bobby's but he couldn't remember what Bobby's last name was although he could describe him.

Kindred was placed under arrest and transported to the Greene County Jail where he was booked in at 3:21 AM. He was being held without bond pending court appearance.

Kindred is facing charges of:

  • Possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, and

  • Possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.
