Mary Elizabeth Taft, 31, Sullivan, was arrested by Officer Debbie McDonald of the Linton Police Department early Wednesday, September 16.

It was 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday when the Linton Police Department got a tip that Mary Taft was sitting in a motel room in Linton, smoking methamphetamine out of a glass pipe. So Officer McDonald, the investigating officer, and LPD Officer Kyle Robison responded.

When the officers arrived and knocked on the door of a room at Allen’s Motel, Taft answered the door and agreed to let the officers come inside to talk to her.

Officer McDonald reported that as they were talking to Taft, she was very nervous and was rearranging a blanket and sheet on the bed and moving a book around. When asked, she said she didn’t have anything but when asked if she could show what was under the covers, she flipped the covers and revealed a clear plastic bag containing a Ziploc bag with a white crystal substance. It field-tested positive as methamphetamine.

Taft was booked into the Greene County Jail at 2:27 a.m. She’s being held without bond pending court appearance.

Taft is facing a preliminary charge of possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony.
