Standing water causes vehicle to hydroplane and hit a guardrail head-on

A Worthington woman escaped injury Thursday morning in a crash on State Road 48. She hit standing water, lost control and wound up in a ditch.

Krista Michael, 26, of Worthington, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado when the crash involving only one vehicle occurred around 8:15 a.m. Thursday, October 4.

Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy Terry Wade, the investigating officer, said Michael was westbound on State Road 48 east of County Road 1100 West at a time when the heavy rainfall caused standing water on the roadway.

Michael told the deputy that as her vehicle hit the standing water, it hydroplaned causing her to lose control.

Deputy Wade reported the vehicle traveled off the north, or right side, shoulder of the highway and hit a guardrail head-on.

After impact with the guardrail, the vehicle traveled into a ditch on the north side of the highway where it came to rest

No injuries were reported but the Greene County Ambulance Service did respond to the scene along with the Wright Township Fire Department and Dan’s Auto.
