When a Springville man appeared in court last Thursday morning, he was charged with felony intimidation. He’d been arrested in early May after he allegedly pulled a knife on a woman and threatened to kill her.

Christopher Bailey

Christopher “Chris” Jerome Bailey, 47, Springville, was arrested by Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy David Elmore on May 6.

Deputy Elmore, the investigating officer, was dispatched along with Deputy Marshal Wayman JR Blazier of the Bloomfield Police Department to a residence on South State Road 45, Springville, after a woman called 911 and said Bailey had pulled a knife on her and threatened to kill her. The officers were told the woman had a handgun and would shoot the man who was trespassing and that there were numerous people on the scene.

Once they arrived and talked to Bailey and other individuals who were all outside, they learned there had been an altercation and Bailey was upset about the woman allegedly calling a member of his family a derogatory name.

Deputy Elmore reported that when he talked to Bailey, the man had blood on his face and hand and had a knife in his right hand. He later was told Bailey had fallen and had cut himself before officers arrived. Bailey was told to drop the knife.

While Elmore was talking to Bailey to get his side of the story, two women on the scene started yelling back and forth and Bailey allegedly started to go after one of them but was stopped by Elmore. Deputy Zach Goad had also arrived on the scene and the two deputies restrained Bailey in handcuffs. Deputy Elmore reported Bailey then started growling, yelling and cussing at a couple of people.

The woman with the gun allegedly told an officer she had loaded a handgun because she didn’t want to be stabbed by Bailey and said she told dispatch she would unload it when officers arrived.

Bailey was booked into the Greene County Jail where his bond was set at $10,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He posted $1,000 cash, was released and scheduled to appear in court.

During his initial hearing last Thursday morning, May 16, he was charged with intimidation involving drawing or using a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony.
