Solsberry woman accused of breaking a man’s leg with a baseball bat
A warrant was issued Monday for the arrest of a Solsberry woman accused of breaking her neighbor’s leg with a baseball bat.
The criminal case against Rachel L. Crouch, 38, was investigated by Indiana State Police Trooper Taylor Lowry.
In a probable cause affidavit, Trooper Lowry said he responded to a battery complaint on Saturday, April 28, reported by a man who resides on Darcy Court in the Solsberry area.
The man explained that around 12 a.m., he was out smoking a cigarette and listening to music in his truck with his granddaughter. He had the dome light on and his window rolled down. When a song came on he liked, he turned it up higher than normal and didn’t think the neighbors would be able to hear it. But his neighbor, Crouch, came outside and turned on the high beams on her SUV aimed right at him and turned her music up very high, but didn’t say anything to him.
According to Lowry’s narrative, the man said he then saw Crouch walking over and he got out of the truck, but when he saw she had a silver aluminum baseball bat in hand, he asked her to leave his property.
Crouch allegedly asked what he was going to do about it then swung the bat with both hands and hit his left leg with the bat.
The man told Lowry he didn’t fall to the ground but he bent at the knees with extreme pain, and then the two of them ended up “scrapping” on the ground. He said he didn’t have a lot of strength in his arms and was unable to strike her but he was trying to block her from hitting him again.
He said when Crouch’s husband came over and asked what was going on, he told him he was trying to keep Crouch from hitting him again with the bat. He said the husband picked him up and threw him off onto the ground then grabbed Crouch and tried to get her back to their house.
In the meantime, the granddaughter had run inside to tell the man’s wife to call the police and Crouch and her husband got into the SUV and left the area.
The man’s wife took him to Monroe Hospital and Trooper Lowry said the medical records document the man’s injuries, including scratches to his neck and hand, injuries to ribs and a fractured leg. Lowry said the man was wearing a leg brace and using a walker.
When Crouch is arrested and appears for an initial hearing in Greene Superior Court, she will be charged with battery resulting in bodily injury, a Level 5 felony, and battery by means of a deadly weapon, also a Level 5 felony.
