A Solsberry man who was allegedly intoxicated and slumped over the wheel of a truck parked in the lot of a Bloomfield restaurant was arrested and last week was charged with public intoxication and resisting law enforcement.

Danny Joe Mathis, 44, Solsberry, was arrested by Lt. Marvin Holt of the Bloomfield Police Department late Sunday afternoon, March 1. Bond for Mathis was set at $2,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He posted $200, was released and given a court date.

When Mathis appeared in Greene Superior Court last week, he was formally charged with public intoxication, a Class B misdemeanor, and resisting law enforcement, a Class A misdemeanor.

Lt. Holt was dispatched around 4 p.m. that Sunday to the parking lot of Casa Sevilla restaurant located on the south edge of Bloomfield after someone reported a man, later identified as Mathis, was slumped over the wheel in a red truck. The caller said the man had been there for 30 minutes.

When Lt. Holt arrived, GCSD Deputy Michael Coy was already there, talking to Mathis. The officers said Mathis was extremely intoxicated.

The information detailed in a probable cause affidavit prepared by Lt. Holt indicates the situation with Mathis attracted the attention of patrons who were coming and going from the restaurant and they appeared to be disgusted. This led to Mathis allegedly threatening to kill Lt. Holt. After the threat was made a second time, Mathis was taken into custody.

Mathis was booked into jail around 5:14 p.m. that day.
