A Solsberry man has been charged with battery resulting in bodily injury after allegedly battering a former employee. 

According to a probable cause affidavit written by Deputy Anthony Nelson of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department and filed in Greene Superior Court, a former employee of Douglas Uland was on the scene on Copper Branch Road in Solsberry on May 17.

He said he came to speak to his former employer, Douglas Uland, regarding a check he was owed. He said he had been working for Uland for about a year. The victim claimed Uland repeatedly put him in a vehicle that broke down, while Uland claimed the victim was the reason the vehicle broke down. The victim claimed Uland bumped his chest then swung his hand, knocking his glasses off of him. The victim said when he attempted to pick up his glasses, Uland kicked him in the throat and neck with his boot. The victim also stated Uland picked him up and squeezed his neck and chest, causing him to defecate himself. The victim said he couldn't breathe when Uland was squeezing him. 

Deputy Nelson took pictures of the victim’s injuries. While talking to the victim, Nelson reported in the probable cause that he could smell an odor of feces.

While Deputy Nelson was speaking with the victim, Deputy Terry Wade arrived on the scene. 

Nelson and Wade left the scene and drove to Uland’s home to speak to him regarding the incident. Upon arrival, Uland’s wife informed officers he was on the road driving. They informed her of the reason for their visit. According to the probable cause affidavit, Mrs. Uland said she knew what had happened that day. She said the victim was fired and was supposed to return a company credit card and fuel card. 

Officers asked Mrs Uland to review video footage, which she agreed. She attempted to pull the video, but there was lagging and condensation on the camera. She said she would have her son work on the video and get it to officers as soon as she could. 

While she was working on the video, Deputy Nelson spoke to Uland via telephone. Uland denied any physical altercation between him and the victim. He said there was; however, yelling and threatening.

Uland has been charged with battery resulting in bodily injury, a Class C Misdemeanor. He waived an initial appearance and has retained Joseph Lozano, an attorney from Bloomington.
