Solsberry man arrested for theft of headlights
A 46-year-old Solsberry man was arrested on a warrant Oct. 24 after he allegedly took headlights from a local store without paying for them.
A warrant was issued for the arrest of Jeremy Wayne Reed on a charge of theft with a prior unrelated conviction for theft or conversion. The warrant, issued Oct. 23 from Greene Superior Court, stemmed from an Oct. 17 incident at Linton Walmart. Reed was arrested by Linton Police Department Officer Nathanael Kilgore.
On Oct. 17, Linton Police Department Officer Jerrad Pirtle was dispatched to Walmart in regard to a theft. Upon arrival, he spoke with an Asset Protection Associate (APA) who had Reed in custody. The APA, according to the probable cause affidavit, told Pirtle that Reed had taken two headlights for a vehicle. Pirtle viewed video footage of Reed placing the light bulbs underneath his sweatshirt.
According to a statment provided by the APA, Reed was observed at the service desk with two automotive head lights in his hand. A quick check of video footage showed Reed enter the aisle where the bulbs were located. Reed selected the bulbs, then quickly concelaed them under his sweatshirt. He exited the store without paying for the items. He proceeded to his car, which he moved from one side of the lot to another. He re-entered the store and went to the service desk to return the headlights for a gift card. When the return transaction was complete, he was approached by APAs. The total amount of items taken was $49.94.
At that time, Reed was released from the scene after being trespassed from Walmart.
Reed has previous convictions for theft, with the most recent being March 2014.
After he was arrested on the warrant, he was transported to Greene County Jail where his bond was set at $4,000 surety with 10% cash allowed.
