A Linton woman accused of shoplifting over $120 worth of food and other items was arrested last Saturday and is now facing a charge of theft, a Class A misdemeanor.

Leslie Lynn Clayton, 58, Linton, was arrested by Officer Cayden Walker of the Linton Police Department last Saturday, November 12.

Officer Walker was dispatched at 4:09 PM last Saturday when the Walmart store in Linton notified police that Clayton had stolen items from the store and was sitting in the asset protection office. When he arrived, an asset protection associate told him Clayton had attempted to conceal items in a backpack and walk out of the store without attempting to pay for the items.

When the officer talked to her, Clayton allegedly said she was taking the items because she did not have money for food then said that was not a good excuse because she was also taking items other than food.

Some of the items that were taken and not paid for included a package of washcloths, a package of Kraft Colby Jack cheese, a 10 pack of fly ribbons, a gray backpack with flowers on it, a container of blue paint, a container of orange paint, a container of black paint, a container of green paint, a package of Sour Patch Kids, a package of oven roasted chicken breast lunch meat, and a container of Gorilla Glue.

In a search when she was taken into custody, the officer reported finding a calculator shoved inside of her waistband and she then allegedly told him there were food items and cat food in her purse which turned out to be five packages of tuna along with six cans of cat food.

The store provided the officer with a receipt for all of the items that totaled $123.41.

Clayton was transported to the Greene County Sheriff's Department where she was booked into jail at 4:58 PM with bond set at $1000 surety with 10% cash allowed. She posted $100 and was released on November 13.

Clayton is being charged with theft, a Class A misdemeanor, and she is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court for her initial hearing on December 1
