A shopper allegedly admitted she scanned some items but skipped scanning other items when she went through a self-check-out at a local store.  

Coral Renee Spelts, 29, Jasonville, was arrested by Officer Wayman JR Blazier of the Linton Police Department on Tuesday, February 8.

Spelts was suspected of shoplifting and was stopped in the Walmart store in Linton on Tuesday, February 8, by one of the store’s asset protection associates who then contacted the Linton Police Department.  

Officer Blazier was dispatched around 6:51 p.m. and met with the associate who said Spelts was seen on camera at a self-check-out putting several items that had not been scanned in bags with other items that were scanned.

When Officer Blazier talked to Spelts, she allegedly said there was no reason why she was shoplifting, that she had the money but she had a lot going on her life. When asked if she was skipping some items while scanning other items and putting them all in bags, she allegedly said she was.

Spelts was arrested, transported and booked into the Greene County Jail at 7:44 p.m. Her bond was set at $1,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. She posted $100 and was released later the same night.

Officer Blazier said when the items were checked, Spelts had skipped scanning and not paid for several food and clothing items including five pairs of boy’s pants and a rice cooker, with a total value of $134.44.

Spelts is scheduled to be in Greene Superior Court later this month for an initial hearing. She’s facing a charge of theft, a Class A misdemeanor.
