Shoplifter facing felony charge

A Vincennes woman who allegedly shoplifted items worth $10.25 is facing a felony because she has a previous conviction for theft.

Jalisa Greer, 28, Vincennes, is being summoned to appear in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing in January.

A criminal case was filed against Greer last week as a result of an investigation by Officer John Agan of the Linton Police Department into a shoplifting incident that occurred last spring.

Officer Agan was dispatched to the Dollar General Store on A Street NW in Linton where a man and woman were reported to be attempting to leave in a white Chevrolet Avalanche truck with merchandise they did not pay for.

When Officer Agan talked to the driver, the driver said he had paid for all the merchandise in his possession but he was unaware of any merchandise the passenger, Jalisa Greer, might have in her possession.

The manager of the store told the officer she witnessed Greer selecting several items which she concealed in her clothing.

When Officer Agan talked to Greer, she admitted she selected and concealed the items then left the store without paying for them.

Video surveillance from the store allegedly confirmed the manager’s story.

The items Greer confessed to stealing included: Dollar General brand baby oil gel valued at $2.50, Dollar General brand infant pain and fever medication worth $2.75, and a Hello brand toothbrush and toothpaste valued at $5.00, for a total value of $10.25.

Officer Agan reported Greer has a previous conviction for theft in Knox County.

Greer is facing a charge of theft, a Level 6 felony.
