Sex offender accused of moving and not changing address on sex offender list
/A warrant was issued last Wednesday for the arrest of a convicted sex offender who allegedly failed to notify the registrar for the Indiana’s Sex and Violent Offender’s List of a change in his address. He was taken into custody over the weekend.
Ricky Lee Cain, 39, of Shelburn, formerly of Linton, was arrested and booked into the Greene County Jail on Friday night, May 17.
Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy James Carpenter investigated after Cain could not be located to verify his address.
Carpenter said Cain was convicted of sexual misconduct with a minor, a Class C felony, in 2012 and is required to register as a sex offender for 10 years following his release from incarceration.
Cain was registered in Greene County but on May 9, he could not be found when Deputy Bruce Porter attempted to verify his last registered address at Allen’s Motel in Linton. The manager advised Cain had not lived there for about a month.
Deputy Carpenter then contacted Cain’s parole officer who said Cain was living in Shelburn and was working for Kevin Provo in Worthington.
Carpenter reported Cain failed to contact the Greene County Registrar to notify her he had moved out of the county and he failed to register with the Sullivan County Registrar with his new address.
A criminal case was then filed against Cain on a preliminary charge of failure to register as a sex or violent offender, a Level 6 felony.
Cain’s bond has been set at $4,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. On Monday morning, he had not yet posted bond and was still in jail.
