Saturday crash on Lone Tree Road and SR 48 results in fatality
One man lost his life and one woman suffered multiple injuries and was transported via AirEvac in a crash involving two vehicles around 5 p.m. Saturday on County Road 1000 West, also known as Lone Tree Road, and State Road 48.
Richard T. Neighbors, 45, of Bowling Green, Kentucky, was pronounced deceased as a result of his injuries. He was transported to Greene County General Hospital by Greene County Ambulance E4.
Amy E. Neighbors, 35, was transported by AirEvac 39 to Regional Hospital in Terre Haute with multiple internal injuries.
Deputy Camron Frye of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, the lead investigator, responded after the sheriff’s department received a 911 call at 4:51 p.m., Saturday, December 7. The caller reported a two-vehicle crash with injuries in the area of State Road 48 and County Road North 1000 West.
Deputy Frye said that upon arrival, it was determined the driver of a 2010 Nissan Cube, Richard Neighbors, was deceased.
Amy E. Neighbors, a passenger in the Cube, was extracted from the vehicle then airlifted to Regional.
The other vehicle involved was a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado. David Burger, 60, Jasonville, was the driver of the Silverado with one passenger onboard, Jeremy D. Burger, 30.
Deputy Frye reported the Silverado driven by Burger was westbound on State Road 48 while the Nissan Cube driven by Neighbors was southbound on North CR 1000 West. For an unknown reason, the Nissan Cube failed to yield the right-of-way before entering the intersection of the county road and the highway. The Silverado struck the Cube in the intersection.
The investigation is ongoing. The Indiana State Police are performing an accident reconstruction.
Family has been notified.
