Samantha Mahan chosen to serve as Greene County Treasurer

A vacancy in county government created by a resignation in the treasurer’s office was filled Saturday during a caucus of the Greene County Republican party.

Samantha Mahan

Precinct committeeman representing the Republican party selected Samantha Mahan, of Jasonville, who currently serves as chief deputy in the Greene County Treasurer’s Office, to the position of Greene County Treasurer. She will complete the term of former treasurer Nicole Stahl who tendered her resignation from the position effective May 13.

Mahan will be sworn in for her new role on Monday.

As Stahl was elected to the position on the Republican ticket, Republican precinct committeemen from the county were tasked with appointing her replacement.

“She also seemed very excited to win. It’s so great when you get to see someone elected that genuinely seems to want to do a good job,” said Greene County Republican Party Chairman Julia Bartlow. “Politics can be ugly, but we had a really good turnout of precinct committeemen, and a couple of good candidates.”

Mahan, a graduate of Shakamak High School with 19 years of experience in the banking industry, said she was excited to be named as the county’s new treasurer.

“I’m looking forward to diving in and learning everything I can that will help benefit the county,” Mahan said.

Her first order of business will be focusing on investments to make sure they’re placed where they need to be and if not, rectifying that.

Mahan said she wants to be someone residents can come to with questions and get answers whether that means pointing them to another office for the answer or answering their question if it’s related to the treasurer’s office.

Mahan is proud of her staff and is excited to move forward with them.

“I’m really excited for my team,” she said. “I have a really good team in place.”

Mahan and her husband, Nicholas, reside in Jasonville and have two children, William and Phoebe.
