Rockville man arrested for meth possession after parking lot crash

A Rockville man with warrants out in three states was arrested after he allegedly caused an accident involving three vehicles in a parking lot at the Scheid Diesel Extravaganza late last Saturday night.

Walter Kevin Reiss

Walter Kevin Reiss, 45, Rockville, was arrested by Indiana State Police Trooper Chance Humphrey late Saturday night, August 29. Reiss was taken into custody in a parking lot at the Scheid Diesel Extravaganza where Reiss allegedly caused a crash involving three vehicles.

Trooper Humphrey was working in Greene County last Saturday, August 29, when he was dispatched at 10:12 p.m. to a crash in the parking lot at the intersection of County Road 300 South and State Road 57 where some of the Scheid Diesel events were taking place. ISP Sgt. Greg Day was also on duty and was closer to the scene so he also responded and arrived first.

When Trooper Humphrey arrived, he found Sgt. Day and multiple Daviess County Sheriff’s Deputies talking with Reiss, who was in handcuffs. A white 2004 Hyundai Sonata had heavy front-end damage. A white 2012 Ford F250 had minor damage to the tailgate area and it was up against a red 1999 Ford 250.

According to Trooper Humphrey, Reiss was driving the Hyundai and had pulled into the parking lot. A female employee working security at the event stopped Reiss because he was driving too fast in a crowded area. When Reiss asked if he could drive through the area, the employee said he could but he needed to slow down because he was “messed up.” This made Reiss angry and he quickly accelerated the Hyundai, hitting the white truck and pushing it into the red truck. The employee said Reiss then put the Hyundai in reverse and was attempting to leave the scene. So the employee reached through the window of the Hyundai, shut it off and removed the keys.

Daviess County deputies, who were there working security, then arrived and took over. They determined Reiss was wanted on a warrant issued out of Vigo County and they handcuffed him.

Reiss allegedly said the employee was rude to him because he was in a car and he was going to leave but he forgot to put the car in reverse and hit the truck. Later on the way to jail, Reiss allegedly told Trooper Humphrey he didn’t mean to cause the crash but the lady had upset him.

During a check for weapons before Reiss was transported, Sgt. Day reported finding a small sock in a pocket of Reiss. Inside the sock was a small plastic bag containing a crystal substance that appeared to be methamphetamine. Reiss said it wasn’t his, that he’d picked it up off the ground. But on the way to jail, Reiss allegedly said he had not gotten out of his car at the event before the crash occurred.

A records check revealed Reiss is not only wanted on a warrant issued out of Vigo County but is wanted in North Carolina but they will not extradite. He’s also wanted on a warrant in Ohio, but they will not extradite.

Reiss was booked into the Greene County Jail at 11:21 p.m. He was being held without bond pending court appearance. He’s scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday, September 2, to face a charge of possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony.
