Rape suspect arrested by LPD

A man who is a suspect in an investigation by the Linton Police Department into an alleged rape was taken into custody early this morning.

Gerald Leroy Thompson Jr

Gerald Leroy Thompson, Jr., 30, was arrested by Sgt. Logan Hobbs of the Linton Police Department early this morning, Wednesday, July 21. Thompson was booked into the Greene County Jail at 6:05 a.m.

Thompson was listed with a home address in Bloomfield on the jail record but a new criminal case filed against him shows a home address in Linton and another pending case, with a newly-issued warrant, shows a home address in Dugger.

Thompson was taken into custody on preliminary charges of rape, a Level 3 felony, and domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor. Those are “preliminary” charges. A criminal case involving those charges has not yet been filed as of 2 p.m. today. An investigation led by LPD Sgt. Logan Hobbs is underway.

However, a new criminal case was filed against Thompson this morning, on a charge of intimidation, a Class A misdemeanor, and a petition to revoke his bond was filed today in another case pending against him involving a charge of failure to return to lawful detention, a Level 6 felony.

The intimidation case was investigated by Officer Orry Phipps of the Linton Police Department last Wednesday, July 14, when Officer Phipps was dispatched to a residence in Linton to talk to a woman who alleged Thompson had threatened her.

The alleged victim told Officer Phipps that she was scared and had not been staying at her residence because she was afraid Thompson would go there and harm her. She told the officer that she had recorded a phone call with Thompson and she provided the officer with the recording.

Officer Phipps reported that during the recorded phone conversation, Thompson said, “I’m going to f------ hunt your G-- d--- a-- down and f--- you up.”

A date for an initial hearing on the intimidation charge has not yet been set.

In another pending case against Thompson involving failure to return to lawful detention, Thompson was currently out of jail on bond. Today, the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office filed a petition to revoke his bond. A warrant was issued for his arrest – it will be served to him in jail and he will be held without bond.

GreeneStreets will post if additional charges are filed against Thompson.
