Posting nude photos on social media leads to criminal charge

A man who allegedly posted nude photos of an ex-girlfriend on Facebook to get back at her is now facing a misdemeanor charge and has been summoned to appear in court.

Cody D. Longest, 21, Linton, is facing a preliminary charge of distribution of an intimate image, a Class A misdemeanor, as a result of an investigation by Sgt. Logan Hobbs of the Linton Police Department.

Longest’s home address in court records is in Linton, but in a phone interview with Sgt. Hobbs, Longest said he was living in Illinois.

Sgt. Hobbs began his investigation in mid-February when a woman made a complaint to the police department saying Longest had posted an intimate image of her on Facebook. She said she had dated Longest but they broke up and Longest then logged into her Facebook account, changed the password so she could not access it, and posted nude photos of her on her account so her family and friends would see it.

Sgt. Hobbs reported he has photos of messages between Longest and the woman in which Longest tells the woman, “I’m posting your nudes.”

When Sgt. Hobbs made contact him, Longest allegedly said he posted the photos to “get back at her.” Longest also allegedly admitted he knew everyone on her Facebook would see the images and that he was located in Vincennes when he posted the photos.

Sgt. Hobbs reported the conversation with Longest was recorded.

After the charge was filed, a summons was sent to Longest ordering him to appear in court for an initial hearing today, April 16. However, due to the precautions taken for the pandemic, many court cases have been rescheduled.

Today’s initial hearing for Longest was vacated and he is now scheduled to appear in court on June 1.
