Alcohol believed to be a factor in crash involving three juveniles and one 18-year-old
Minor possession of alcohol charges have been filed against an 18-year-old Worthington woman following a one car accident on July 26.
Deputy Camron Frye of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department was called to the scene of an accident with injury on July 26. Upon arrival at the scene, Frye found EMS and fire personnel on scene as well as a Buick Century on its top.
When approaching the scene, Frye found Juvenile 1 who was lying in the roadway with an injured hand. He admitted to drinking alcohol and said he possibly used marijuana.
The driver of the vehicle, Juvenile 2, had his parents with him when Deputy Frye spoke with him. He said they were cruising around until curfew. He said they came to a curve, drove through the grass a little, and flipped the car. The driver denied using alcohol or drugs.
Frye asked the driver who was in the vehicle with him and he said just him and the passenger. Frye advised him of the statements made by the neighbor and he stated a female juvenile, Juvenile 3, and Piper Phillips were in the car. He said he was unsure of where they were, but said they left with their parents. He said he was unsure if either females consumed alcoholic beverages.
A witness at the scene told Deputy Frye another vehicle arrived at the scene and two people left in that vehicle. Another witness said he didn’t see the accident occur but did see a vehicle pull up and pick up some passengers involved.
When talking with the first juvenile, he told Frye that all four involved in the accident had consumed alcohol. He said he felt fine but was going to park the vehicle once he started to feel the effects of the alcohol. He said the others in the vehicle were pressuring him to drive. He said they were driving in the area of the crash when he drove off the road and began braking. He told Frye the alcohol was furnished by Phillips’ parents.
When the third juvenile and Phillips were asked about consuming alcohol, they both admitted to drinking but “not that much”. When asked how the alcohol was obtained, Phillips admitted they stole it from her parents. When advised by Frye that the first juvenile said the alcohol was provided by Phillips’ parents, that claim was denied by Phillips’ parents, Phillips, and the third juvenile.
Frye informed Phillips charges would be sent for illegal consumption.
