Owensburg domestic ends with an arrest

A domestic incident in Owensburg last Saturday night ended with an arrest on preliminary charges of battery and strangulation.

Thomas Clarence Manues, Jr.

Thomas Clarence Manues, Jr., 67, Springville, was arrested by Deputy Camron Frye of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department on Saturday night, August 1.

Deputy Frye was dispatched to a residence on Wine Street in Owensburg after a woman called and said her father had punched her in the eye and her eye was bleeding. She also said he had his hands around her neck and threatened her.

While Deputy Frye was on the way, the suspect, Manues, also called the sheriff’s department and allegedly admitted to battering the woman. The conversation was recorded and saved for evidence.

There were several people at the residence when the deputy arrived and he talked to the woman and Manues as well as other family members. The deputy listened to details about a family disagreement that was verbal but became physical.

The woman said she had been in an argument with her mother and when Manues came home, he hit her in the eye then grabbed her by the throat and she felt like she was going to pass out. Manues allegedly said the woman had struck him first  and he did not strangle her though he did hold her down.

Deputy Frye reported the woman had a cut with blood above an eye and redness around her neck. An ambulance was called and transported her to Monroe Hospital for treatment.

Manues was taken into custody and booked into the Greene County Jail at 8:09 p.m. His bond was set at $5,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He posted $500 and was released the next day.

Manues has retained defense attorneys from Bedford and is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing next Thursday, August 13.

Manues is facing preliminary charges of domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor, and strangulation, a Level 6 felony.
