When a deputy was dispatched to an active physical fight inside a convenience store, everyone involved had left shortly before he arrived, but the entire fight was captured on the store’s security cameras. The footage revealed who was throwing the punches and a summons has been sent to the suspect.

Coby Farley, 19, has been ordered to appear in Greene Superior Court this Thursday, May 9. Court records list Farley with a home address in Lebanon, Ind. He is a former Greene County resident.

Back on March 20, Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy David Elmore was dispatched about an active physical fight inside the Pinewood gas station and convenience store on North State Road 45 in eastern Greene County.

When he arrived, he talked to an employee who was very upset and he saw a credit card pad had been broken in the fight.

When Elmore viewed the security footage, he reported seeing the victim, Anthony Epeards, walk in to Pinewood at 7:57 p.m. with Farley right behind him. Epeards walked up to the cash register and pulled money out of his pocket while Farley stood next to him saying something to him. Epeards did not engage with Farley and Farley moved closer.

When Epeards completed his transaction and turned to leave, Farley swung at Epeards with a closed fist and punched Epeards. Epeards tucked his head and then got punched in the back of the head by Farley. Farley then continued to punch Epeards approximately eight or nine more times.  

A woman identified as Farley’s mother was also shown in the footage, pointing and yelling at Epeards. She did not intervene to try to stop the fight until the employee started to call 911.

Deputy Elmore then interviewed Epeards at another location and reported Epeards was in pain and had a busted and cut lip, a knot on the side of his head and redness on the side of his head.

A criminal case was filed against Farley in early April and a summons was sent.

The preliminary charges against Farley include battery resulting in bodily injury, a Class A misdemeanor, and criminal mischief, a Class B misdemeanor.

Farley has another case pending against him dating back to a little over a year ago. He was accused of being one of four individuals involved in the theft of track hurdles from the Eastern Greene School.
