UPDATE: Bond set at $75,000 in meth case

When a Linton man was arrested last week, officers reported they seized over eight ounces of methamphetamine. He’s accused of possession of meth with intent to deal and has been charged with a Level 2 felony.

When he appeared in court on Tuesday, his bond was set at $75,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed and the prosecution notified the court they intend to seek an habitual offender status which could add a significant enhancement to his sentence if he is found guilty.

The prosecution’s request for the habitual offender sentence enhancement states that in March of 2018, Ramsey Stone Ferree, 26, Linton, was convicted and sentenced for possession of methamphetamine, a Level 5 felony, in Morgan Circuit Court, and in July of 2020, he was convicted and sentenced for escape, a Level 6 felony, in Greene Superior Court.

As of mid-day Friday, Ferree had not yet posted bond and was still in custody but records show he has retained a defense attorney from Indianapolis to represent him.

Ramsey Stone Ferree

Ramsey Stone Ferree, 26, Linton, was arrested by Officer Bobby Pierce of the Linton Police Department last night, Thursday, July 8.

Ferree was the driver of a blue 2008 Dodge Avenger reported to be speeding and driving left of center in the area of County Road 1000 West, also known as Lone Tree Road, and CR 700 North on Thursday. Officer Pierce initiated a traffic stop on Lone Tree Road near CR 600 North.

During the stop, Officer Andrew Duguay and his K-9 partner Blitz of the Jasonville Police Department assisted on the scene and during a sniff around the exterior of the vehicle, Blitz alerted to the presence of a controlled substance. Due to the positive alert, a search warrant for the vehicle was issued.

During the search of the vehicle, officers reported finding a number of items. In the center console, they reported finding four zip bags, all containing a white crystal substance, one zip bag containing an off-white powdery substance, and three separate zip bags, each containing a pill or pieces of three different kinds of pills.

In a backpack behind the driver’s seat, they found a safe containing a black plastic bag containing a gray plastic bag containing a white crystal substance that field tested positive as methamphetamine. The white crystal substance, as packaged in the plastic bag, weighed approximately 8.2 ounces. Officers also reported they located $830 cash in the safe.

A search warrant was also issued for Ferree’s residence on J Street NW. No information was released about the execution of that warrant.

Ferree was taken into custody and booked into the Greene County Jail at 11:02 p.m. He is being held without bond pending court appearance – date not yet set, but a criminal case was filed in Greene Superior Court earlier today, Friday, July 9.

Ferree is being charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to deal, with an enhancing circumstance and a prior conviction, a Level 2 felony.
