Officer-involved shooting being investigated by Indiana State Police
/The Indiana State Police is investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place on July 19 on Old Clifty Road while officers were attempting to locate a suspect.
Deputies from the Greene County Sheriff’s Office responded to Old Clifty Road at the request of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department to help locate a suspect and secure the property. The suspect allegedly shot his ex-girlfriend in the leg in the evening hours of July 18.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers located the suspect’s vehicle along with a tent set up next to it. According to a press release from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were holding the perimeter when they saw the suspect unzip the tent and look out a window. Deputies identified themselves as being with the sheriff’s department and a few seconds later, a gunshot was heard coming from the tent. This, according to the release, resulted in a Greene County deputy discharging his patrol rifle toward the tent.
The Bloomington Police Department’s Critical Incident Response Team was contacted and responded to the scene. According to the release, the suspect was discovered deceased upon their arrival.
This incident is being investigated by the Indiana State Police.
