No serious injuries reported after fiery head-on crash East Tulip Road this afternoon
/Two drivers exited their vehicles with only minor injuries following a head-on collision at approximately 4:11 PM this afternoon, Thursday, August 18, on East Tulip Road, Solsberry.
Deputy Harvey Holt of the Greene County Sheriff's Department reported one of the vehicles was completely engulfed in fire when emergency responders arrived on the scene.
John Skirvin, 45, Solsberry, was the driver of 2007 Chevy Silverado eastbound on east Tulip Road.
Ashlee Whitfield, 18, Solsberry, who was the driver of a 2006 Chevy Traverse westbound on east Tulip Road.
Deputy Holt said Skirvin crossed the center line of the roadway and drove east in the westbound lane. Whitfield saw the approaching vehicle and she tried to warn him by honking her horn. Skirvin then swerved right at the last moment and both vehicles hit head-on in the westbound lane. Skirvin’s vehicle caught on fire as a result.
Skirvin suffered a scrape to the head but refused treatment on the scene.
Whitfield suffered neck and chest pain and was transported by family to IU Health Bloomington Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
In addition to the Greene County Sheriff's Department, personnel from the Greene County Ambulance Service and Beech Creek Fire responded to assist on the scene.
