Mobile food pantry, free health screenings planned for June 15 in Linton

Residents will have the opportunity to access free food, health screenings and safety resources during a community outreach event scheduled for Monday, June 15, at Humphreys Park in Linton.

The Mobile Food Pantry distribution will begin at 10 a.m. at Humphreys Park, located at 1300 A St. NE. Organizers say the event is designed not only to provide food assistance but also to connect community members with valuable health and family resources.

In conjunction with the food distribution, community partners from the Indiana University School of Public Health-Bloomington will offer a variety of free health screenings and wellness services at the park's West Shelter House from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Available screenings will include A1C testing, cholesterol screening and blood pressure checks. Attendees will also have access to nutrition and food education resources.

Additional health assessments will include a "Veggie Meter," which provides information about fruit and vegetable intake, and grip strength testing, a quick measure of overall muscle health.

The event is free and open to the public, and no appointment is required.

Families are also encouraged to take advantage of free car seat safety checks offered by Tandem. Certified technicians will be available to help ensure child safety seats are properly installed and being used correctly.

The Mobile Food Pantry is being organized through a partnership involving Empowering With Passion Consulting, the City of Linton, Meng Family Funeral Homes, Feeding America, Terre Haute Catholic Charities Foodbank, Indiana University School of Public Health-Bloomington and other community organizations.

Organizers are currently seeking volunteers to assist with the event. Individuals interested in helping can register through the volunteer sign-up form, https://forms.gle/ZEPviiQAV6gFMyUSA.

Organizers hope the event will provide both immediate assistance and long-term resources for local families while strengthening community connections.

"It takes a village to make these events successful," organizers said. "Together, we can help feed our community and connect families with valuable health and safety resources."
