Michigan woman stopped for speeding on I-69
An officer said a woman traveling through Indiana on her way home to Michigan was not in violation of the travel ban but she’s facing a charge of reckless driving for speeding along at 103 mph.
A criminal case was filed last Thursday, April 17, against Sara Elizabeth Smith, 32, Comstock Park, Michigan, on a preliminary charge of reckless driving at unreasonable speed that endangers safety, a Class C misdemeanor.
Smith was the driver of a silver 2019 Kia Soul northbound to Michigan on I-69 on Sunday morning, March 29, when she was stopped by Indiana State Police Trooper John Yung.
Trooper Yung was southbound on the interstate when he saw Smith’s vehicle going fast. Yung reported he clocked her vehicle at 103 mph so he turned around and made a traffic stop. Smith had a Michigan driver’s license and was driving a rental car.
Smith received a summons to appear in Greene Superior Court but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the date is not yet known. She will be contacted later once the date and time of her hearing is set.
