Michael Coy named GCSD Deputy of the Year 2022; Others honored by GCSD
/Employees of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department recently gathered for their annual end-of-the-year party and during that time employees were recognized for exemplary service throughout the year.
During the event, the Officer of the Year, Dispatcher of the Year, and Jailer of the Year were named. Sheriff Mike Hasler said he speaks with department heads to determine who is honored each year. This year, Hasler said he talked with department heads about who shone in their respective areas.
For 2022, Michael Coy was named Deputy of the Year.
At different times of the year, the department was short on deputies Sheriff Hasler said, as three deputies were at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and another was out on medical leave. This resulted in some 12-hour shifts for officers.
“He never complained. He was almost always filling in taking care of things and had a good attitude,” Hasler said. “He shined in that aspect.”
Dispatcher of the Year was awarded to Zach Mead.
“Dispatchers are the lifeline to the officers on the road,” Hasler said. “They gather all the initial information and give officers an idea of what they are pulling up to.”
Kenneth Schafer was named the Jailer of the Year.
“Jailers do heroic acts inside the jail,” Hasler said.
Sheriff Hasler said Schafer was willing to learn, picking things up quickly, and had an attitude of improvement.
Each recognized employee received a plaque and a letter in their employee file.
Other GCSD Department personnel awarded an appreciation plaque included the following:
