Meth dealer recently sentenced, now in prison until 2029

After a weeks-long investigation, officers of the Greene County Drug Task Force and an investigator from the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office arrested a suspected methamphetamine dealer last August. She was charged with several felonies in two criminal cases and was held in lieu of $100,000 total bond. Her case concluded on May 18 when she was sentenced to prison. She’s now in DOC custody with a projected release date in August of 2029.

Kristy Lynn Humphery

Kristy Lynn Humphery, 40 at the time of her arrest, now 41, Linton, was arrested by LPD officers on Monday night, August 10, 2020. She was taken into custody on a warrant that was issued for her arrest earlier in the day.

Humphery has been under investigation by officers and investigators with the Greene County Drug Task Force and the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office since at least sometime in June of 2020 for suspected drug dealing.

Humphery was accused of selling quantities of methamphetamine and controlled substances out of her residence on NE 10th Street in Linton, also utilizing a motel room at the Park Inn in Linton.

Officers reported they had evidence of transactions with more than one individual that occurred dating back to June involving both meth and oxycodone, a Schedule II controlled substance.

A lot of things happened in the investigation on the day of her arrest. A criminal case was filed in Greene Superior Court, a warrant was issued and the case was placed under seal – not available as a public record until after the arrest. After Humphery was in custody, the seal was lifted.

With the warrant in hand, officers arrived at the Park Inn and went to Humphery’s room to execute the warrant. They knocked and announced themselves but there was no answer. They gained entry and found Humphery and another individual inside.

During the arrest, they saw a clear plastic container sitting in plain view on an end table with a white crystal-like substance inside. Also in plain view, they saw a plate with a white powder residue and a lock box.

Humphery was transported to the Greene County Jail and booked in at 9:35 p.m.

The room was secured along with two vehicles in the parking area that belonged to Humphery. Based on what they saw in the room, a search warrant for the room and the vehicles was approved.

Officers then executed the search warrant and reported the substance inside the container field-tested positive as methamphetamine. In addition, they found numerous items of paraphernalia, packaging materials, bottles of prescription pills with various names, digital scales and another quantity of methamphetamine. The exact amount of methamphetamine seized was in excess of 10 grams. They also found $4,294 cash inside Humphery’s purse.

Humphery was initially held without bond pending court appearance. The next day, Tuesday, August 11, Humphery was in Greene Superior Court at 1:30 p.m. for her initial hearing. She was charged with:

  • Dealing in methamphetamine between one and five grams, a Level 4 felony,

  • Dealing in methamphetamine between one and five grams, a Level 4 felony,

  • Dealing in a Schedule I controlled substance, a Level 6 felony, and

  • Dealing in methamphetamine between one and five grams, a Level 4 felony.

Her bond in this case was set at $50,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed.

Also on Tuesday, another criminal case was filed against Humphery based on what was found in the room when the search warrant was executed. Another warrant was issued for her arrest and it was read to her in jail on Wednesday.

On Thursday, August 13, Humphery was back in Superior Court for another initial hearing at 2 p.m. In the second case, she was charged with:

  • Dealing in methamphetamine in an amount of 10 or more grams, a Level 2 felony.

Her bond in the second case was also set at $50,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed, making the total amount of her bonds $100,000 with ten percent allowed.

Humphery did not post bond but remained in the Greene County Jail as her cases made their way through the court system.

A jury trial was scheduled to start on May 18 but on April 20, she entered into a negotiated plea agreement along with her defense attorney, Greene County Public Defender Ashley Dyer, and Greene County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Keven McIntosh.

Instead of a trial on May 18, Humphery appeared in Greene Superior Court for a change of plea and sentencing hearing.

In keeping with the terms of the plea agreement, the first case against Humphery was dismissed and in the second case, she changed her plea to guilty of dealing in methamphetamine in an amount of 10 or more grams, a Level 2 felony.

Judge Dena Martin sentenced Humphery to 18 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections (DOC) with six years suspended leaving her 12 years of actual time to serve in prison. After she serves her time and is released, she will be on probation for four years.

Humphery was given credit for 281 days already served and she will be allowed good time credit for those days and for future days as long as she is eligible.

Humphery has since been transferred from the county jail into DOC custody. She is currently housed at the Rockville Correctional Facility. If she does qualify for good time credit during her time in DOC, her projected release date is August 9, 2029.
