Man says he forgot to scan over $240 worth of items
/A male shopper who paid for $20 worth of items allegedly said he forgot to scan the other items worth over $240. An LPD officer took him to jail.
Jacob Anthony Beaver, 19, Dugger, was arrested by Officer Wayman JR Blazier of the Linton Police Department on Saturday, June 11.
Officer Blazier was dispatched to the Walmart store in Linton around 4:34 last Saturday afternoon after they reported a theft from their store. When he arrived, he talked to an asset protection associate who said they had stopped a man for the theft and he was waiting in the office.
The subject was identified as Jacob Beaver. According to the asset protection associate, Beaver had not scanned some of his items while using the Walmart app.
Beaver allegedly told Officer Blazier that he forgot to scan the items while he was checking out on the app.
Beaver allegedly did pay for about $20 worth of items but he did not scan and he did not pay for the rest of his items which totaled $240.64. The items included a 12-volt half-inch drill worth $119, a 90-piece mechanics tool set worth $48.88 and numerous other items.
Beaver was taken into custody and transported to the Greene County Jail where he was booked in at 6:05 PM with bond set at $1000 surety with 10% cash allowed. He posted $100 and was released later the same day.
When Beaver appears for his initial hearing in Greene Superior Court, he will be formally charged with theft, a Class A misdemeanor.
