Man punched in the face after allegedly swinging a tire tool

A Solsberry man is accused of busting out headlights then swinging a tire tool at another man. He was allegedly too drunk to land the tool on the man’s head and the man punched him in the face.

Christopher Richard Porter

Christopher Richard Porter, 24, Solsberry, was arrested by Sgt. Bobby Pierce of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department early Monday, June 8.

Sgt. Pierce was dispatched to a residence on McCullough Lane after a man called 911 and said Porter was at his house, had busted the headlights out on his truck, was intoxicated and was passed out inside the truck.

When Sgt. Pierce arrived, the resident said he and a couple of friends were working on his truck earlier when Porter showed up, was drunk, and wanted to fight. The resident alleged Porter picked up a tire tool and was swinging it at him but couldn’t hit him because he was so intoxicated, although the resident did get hit in his hand one time. The man said he was struck when he put his hand out to avoid getting hit in the head. He also said he punched Porter in the face.

Porter was allegedly told to leave multiple times and the men ran him off three times but he came back wanting to fight the resident.

When Sgt. Pierce and GCSD Deputy Zachary Goad approached the truck and talked to Porter, Porter denied busting out the headlights, denied getting into any argument with the resident, denied going after anyone with a tire tool. He allegedly said he was there helping them to work on the truck and that he had permission to stay in the truck.

Porter was taken into custody and during a pat-down, was found to be in possession of marijuana in a pocket.

Porter was booked in around 3 a.m. with bond set at $2,500 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He has since posted $250 and been released from jail.

When Porter appears in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing, he will be formally charged with:

  • Criminal trespassing, a Class A misdemeanor,

  • Battery, a Class B misdemeanor,

  • Criminal mischief, a Class B misdemeanor, and

  • Possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor.
