Man facing charges after conservation officer seizes deer head hanging from a tree
An eastern Greene County man is accused of illegal hunting and possession of a whitetail deer after an Indiana Conservation Officer seized the head of a deer hanging from a tree in front of a house.
Seth D. Phillips, 30, with a rural Bloomfield address, is being summoned to appear in Greene Superior Court on preliminary charges of:
- Unlawful taking of deer, a Class B misdemeanor
- Hunting wild animals without a license – a knowing or intention violation, a Class C misdemeanor
Indiana Conservation Officer Michael Gregg received information on June 11 that a buck deer head was hanging from a tree in the front yard of a residence on East Tulip Road.
It was allegedly killed by Phillips during the 2017 season and the head had been hanging there ever since.
Gregg learned Phillips had recently moved out, but a few days later, Gregg located Phillips at the home of a family member.
Gregg reported that when he talked to Phillips, he admitted that he killed the buck with a bow, that he did not have a license to hunt, and that he did not check the deer in.
