Lyons Police Department recovers stolen pickup, suspect in custody
After an alert citizen notified police of a suspicious situation involving a truck for sale, the Lyons Town Marshal responded and arrested a Springville man allegedly in possession of methamphetamine while driving a truck that had been stolen out of Indianapolis.
Jonathan Michael Robertson, 23, Springville, was arrested by Town Marshal C. Royce Honeycutt of the Lyons Police Department last Thursday night, August 8.
Robertson was the driver of a red Ford F250 flatbed pickup truck that was stopped at the diesel fuel pumps at the Lyons Gas Station last Thursday night. Apparently, Robertson offered the truck for sale for just $2,000 and that price raised someone’s suspicions that it might be a stolen vehicle. They thought it was undervalued and contacted police.
When Marshal Honeycutt arrived in the area and could see the license plate information, he contacted Greene County Dispatch and discovered the truck was reported stolen out of Indianapolis. A trailer had also been stolen along with the truck but the truck at the Lyons Gas Station was not pulling a trailer.
Marshal Honeycutt hit the emergency lights on his patrol vehicle and moved in closer, ordering the driver to show hands, then shut the vehicle’s engine off, then get out of the truck. Robertson was cooperative and was detained.
Shortly after, Deputy Marshal Wayman JR Blazier of the Bloomfield Police Department, Deputy Marshal J. Honeycutt of the Lyons Police Department and Deputy Michael Coy of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department all arrived on the scene to assist.
Marshal Honeycutt reported that during a search of the truck, officers located numerous items including a zip bag containing a white crystal substance that field-tested positive as methamphetamine weighing 1.28 grams, another zip bag containing a white crystal substance that field-tested positive as methamphetamine weighing 1.33 grams, another plastic bag with a white crystal residue, a lighter cover with white crystal residue, a black electronic scale with white crystal residue, a glass bong with a residue and a Katana sword and sheath.
Robertson was booked into the Greene County Jail at 9:19 p.m. He was being held without bond pending court appearance – he remains in custody as of late Tuesday.
When he appears in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing, Robertson will be charged with:
Possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony,
Auto theft – theft of an entire automobile, a Level 6 felony, and
Possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.
