A Lyons man who was stopped late last Wednesday near Bloomfield for not dimming his bright lights wound up in jail on a drug charge.

Larry Joe Browne, 55, Lyons, was arrested by Deputy Marshal Jordan Allor of the Bloomfield Police Department early Thursday, January 23.

Late last Wednesday, January 22, Officer Allor conducted a traffic stop on a white 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee on State Road 54 west of Bloomfield for failure to dim headlights.

Browne was the driver who allegedly said he knew he didn’t dim his bright lights because he was looking at his radio.

Officer Allor wrote in a probable cause affidavit that he told Browne he was giving him a verbal warning for failure to dim, but when he asked Browne if he had anything illegal in his vehicle, Browne said no and agreed to a search of the vehicle.

Officer Allor reported that during a search, he and GCSD Sgt. Bobby Pierce noticed a small plastic bag between the headliner and sunroof that contained a white crystal substance. Browne allegedly said he didn’t know it was in the vehicle. The substance field-tested positive as methamphetamine.

Browne was transported to the Greene County Jail and was booked in around 12:20 a.m. on Thursday, January 23. He was initially held without bond pending a court appearance.

Browne is currently scheduled to appear for an initial hearing next Monday when he will be formally charged with possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony.
