Lyons man accused of driving with BAC of .192

A Lyons man driving a truck in Lyons was stopped then taken to jail yesterday after testing showed he had a blood alcohol concentration of .192.

Jess Laverne George

Jess Laverne George, 66, Lyons, was arrested yesterday, Monday, June 8, by Deputy Alan Jackson of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputy Jackson was in Lyons when he observed a traffic violation on North Walnut Street and initiated a stop at 3:58 p.m.

George was the driver of a red 1989 Ford F-350. Deputy Jackson reported George failed to use a turn signal and failed to stop at a stop sign.

During the stop, George allegedly exhibited several signs of intoxication. Only one field sobriety test was taken but George failed it.

George agreed to take a chemical test and was transported to the Linton Police Department where results showed he had an alcohol concentration equivalent to .192. The legal limit is .08.

George was booked in to the Greene County Jail at 5:47 p.m. with bond set at $4,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. As of late today, Tuesday, he had not yet posted bond and was still in jail.

A criminal case has been filed against George in Greene Superior Court. He is facing preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor, and operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent to .15 or more, a Class A misdemeanor.
