A complaint of an odor of marijuana coming from a residence resulted in the arrest of a 43-year-old Linton man on charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and possession of paraphernalia. 

When Linton Police Department Officers Alan Jackson and Wayman JR Blazier arrived at the main entrance of Landon Sexton’s residence on Glenburn Road, the officers could smell the marijuana odor they had been advised about in the complaint. 

Officers advised Sexton the reason for their call and Sexton said he had smoked some hemp a friend had given to him. He refused to show the hemp to the officers and became defensive when asked if he had smoked marijuana. 

Officer Jackson asked permission to search the residence, which Sexton denied. Jackson then applied for and was granted a search warrant by Greene Superior Court Judge Erik Allen. 

After obtaining the search warrant, Jackson asked Sexton how much marijuana he was going to find, and Sexton admitted he would find a little but nothing else. 

The search warrant was executed and the following was seized: 

• A clear plastic bag containing green plant-like material and loose green plant- like material

• A clear plastic bag containing psilocybin mushrooms

• A metal grinder containing green plant-like material

• A glass smoking device with burnt residue 

• A clear plastic zip lock bag containing burnt “roaches” or leftover ends of of burnt marijuana cigarettes

• Two black containers containing green plant-like material

• A white and orange container containing 11 pills scored “1P 100”. The container also did not have proper label for the pill or identification for whom it was prescribed to.

• Five clear plastic zip lock bags

Sexton claimed possession for all the items located in the residence. The pills were determined to be Acetaminophen-Hydrocodone. Sexton said his prescription may be expired for the drug and he only takes them on days when his back hurts more than normal. 

He admitted the plant-like material in a plastic bag was marijuana, roaches, grinder, and glass smoking device was used for marijuana. The two black containers containing green plant-like material, Sexton said, was marjiuana he obtained from a dispensary while visiting Illinois. He said he believed the plastic bags were from cones he used to pack marijuana into. 

He said the mushrooms were his but he wasn’t sure exactly what they were. He said they were given to him from a friend and told to take them and let the friend know how it went. 

He was charged with: 

• Possession of a controlled substance with an enhancing circumstance, a Level 6 Felony

• Possession of marijuana, a Class B Misdemeanor

• Possession of Paraphernalia, a Class C Misdemeanor

He was held without bond in Greene County Jail until his initial court appearance on Tuesday. He was released Wednesday after posting a $500 bond.
