After a LPD officer responded to a report of a woman screaming for someone to call 911 last Wednesday afternoon, he found a domestic dispute had turned physical and took a man into custody for battery and strangulation.

Daniel Joe Day

Daniel Joe Day, 31, Jasonville, was arrested last Wednesday afternoon, August 25, by Officer Orry Phipps of the Linton Police Department.

Officer Phipps was dispatched at 1:21 p.m. last Wednesday to a location on SE 7th Street in Linton when the LPD got a call about a woman screaming for someone to call 911. When he arrived on the scene, he found the woman sitting inside the residence at the front door. She said Daniel Day was taking a shower because she had thrown pop all over him. She alleged they had gotten into a disagreement and he had grabbed her by the throat and slammed her to the ground. She alleged she could not breathe when he squeezed her neck.

When Day was interviewed, he said he didn’t know what had happened and didn’t know if he had hit the woman. He did admit he had thrown a surveillance camera in the toilet that the woman said had recorded the incident.

Day was booked into the Greene County Jail at 3:55 p.m. with bond set at $8,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He posted $800 and was released the next day.

A criminal case was filed against Day in Greene Superior Court on charges of:

  • Strangulation, a Level 6 felony, and

  • Domestic battery committed in the presence of a child less than 16 years old, a Level 6 felony.
