LPD investigates man wandering around in people's yards

A warrant  was issued Aug. 4 for a Linton man after he failed to provide proper identification to a police officer during an investigation.

Linton Police Officer Davis Aerne received a call of a man wearing maroon shorts and black shirt wandering around people’s yards, taking items that didn’t belong to him. When reporting the incident, the caller said he was in an alleyway behind A Street Southeast. Upon arrival at the scene, Aerne was flagged down by a citizen who reported the male subject had crossed the highway north onto 9th Street Northeast. He said he witnessed the male in two back yards across the alley from his residence.

When Aerne located the subject, later identified as Brandon Kendall, he did not have any items on him except for his cell phone. Aerne advised Kendall of the complaints regarding stolen items. He admitted to taking a piece of plastic from a neighbor’s yard but intended to return it.

When asked his name, Kendall responded with Tyler Cliver and a date of birth. When Aerne proceeded to verify the information, Kendall fled the scene. Aerne located a Tyler Cliver in the department’s system but with a different date of birth than what was provided by Kendall. When checking the date of birth, the search returned the name of Kendall. Attached to his name file was also tattoo locations, left arm, right arm. and left leg. The male subject Aerne spoke with matched the description of Kendall.

When completing a BMV search, Aerne found Kendall has an active felony warrant from Vigo County.

Upon arrest, Kendall will be charged with identity deception, a Level 6 felony.
