A 21-year-old Linton man appeared in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing Tuesday on felony charges of theft of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance with an enhancing substance. 

When Linton Police Department Officer Zach Goad went to the residence of Glen Hinshaw on June 1 to question him about an unrelated incident, he discovered drug-related items and firearms in plain sight. 

Officer Goad requested and was granted a search warrant for Hinshaw’s residence from Greene Superior Court Judge Dena Martin.

The execution of the search warrant resulted in drug-related items such as: a glass smoking device containing residue, a tray containing a rolled up dollar bill, and a credit card with white residue. Based on his experience and training, Officer Goad wrote in the probable cause affidavit that credit cards and rolled up dollar bills are commonly used to crush up and ingest drugs. 

Officers also located a small plastic baggie containing one round blue pill with an “M” imprinted on one side and “30”on the other side along with several broken blue pill pieces. When searching drugs.com, Officer Goad found the blue pill to be Oxycodone based on shape, color, and imprint. Officers also located another small baggie with white residue and a clear plastic closable tube with white residue. White powder-like substance was also located on a dresser. 

During an interview at the police station with Officer Goad and Officer Alan Jackson, Hinshaw said the tray was what he used for rolling marijuana. He also claimed the white residue was Percocet, a drug he did not have a valid prescription for. 

Two black handguns were also found in Hinshaw’s bedroom during the search — Springfield XD-45 .45 caliber  with a magazine containing 12 live rounds and a Glock 19 Gen 4 9mm with an empty 31 round magazine and another empty 15 round magazine. A Calfvic flashlight/laser, which is made to be mounted on a firearm, was also located.  Earlier in the day, Officer Wayman JR Blazier took a report of a stolen firearm. The owner reported last seeing the firearm as well as a flashlight/laser and magazine, about a week prior in the center console of his vehicle. The serial number of the missing handgun matched that of the Springfield located in Hinshaw’s residence. 

During the interview with officers Goad and Jackson, Hinshaw said he purchased the Glock from a friend but would not comment on where he obtained the Springfield. He later told the officers he obtained the firearms from the same person. 

He was booked into Greene County Jail at 12:51 a.m. on June 2 with Officer Blazier as the arresting officer. He was held without bond in the Greene County Jail until his initial hearing June 7 when a bond of $10,000 surety with 10 percent allowed was granted. 

He was charged with theft of a firearm, a Level 6 felony, and possession of a controlled substance with an enhancing circumstance, a Level 6 felony.
