Dezere J. Eggers, 40, Linton, was arrested by Deputy Caleb Sipes of the Greene County Sheriff's Department on Friday, January 13, on a warrant that was issued three days earlier.

Deputy Sipes was dispatched to an apartment in Linton after a woman called dispatch and said her mother, later identified as Eggers, had been at her residence to retrieve her belongings and had battered her in the process. When Deputy Sipes arrived, Linton Police Officer Cayden Walker was already on the scene and told Deputy Sipes that a young child had been present during the altercation.

The woman allegedly told Deputy Sipes that her mother had been having trouble with her boyfriend so had been staying at her apartment but went back to stay with her boyfriend. Eggers wanted her belongings that were at the apartment and the woman told her mother her belongings would be sitting outside the apartment door. But when Eggers arrived to collect her belongings, she knocked on the door and said she still needed to get a “straightener.” The woman said she unlocked the door and handed Eggers the “straightener” but Eggers pushed to get inside the apartment and started hitting her in the head. The two ended up on the floor and then Eggers left the apartment.

A young child and two adults witnessed the incident. When Deputy Sipes interviewed the two adults, one said they heard Eggers banging on the door and then saw her force her way in through the door then start hitting the woman in the head with her phone. They allege that while the two were on the floor Eggers was holding the woman's arms down where she couldn't defend herself and then put her arms around the woman's throat. The other witness confirmed these stories and said Eggers had the woman in a chokehold and that Eggers threatened to kill the woman before she left the apartment.

Deputy Sipes attempted to contact Eggers over the phone but there was no answer and he was unable to leave a voicemail. He also went to her residence but no one answered so he left his card but no one returned a call.

After not hearing from Eggers, a criminal case was filed on January 9 and a warrant was issued for her arrest on January 10. Eggers was arrested on January 13 and booked into the Greene County Jail at 5:51 PM with bond set at $12,000 surety with 10% cash allowed. She posted $1200 and was released on January 16.

Eggers was scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court earlier today for her initial hearing to be formally charged with:

  • Residential entry, breaking and entering a dwelling, a Level 6 felony,

  • Domestic battery committed in the presence of a child less than 16 years old, a Level 6 felony, and

  • Strangulation, a Level 6 felony.
