Linton woman charged with burglary

A Linton woman accused of entering a camper without permission and helping herself to an adult beverage from the fridge, has been charged with burglary and trespassing.

Angela Mae Cliver

Angela Mae Cliver, 58, Linton, was arrested by Deputy Michael Stanley of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department early Thursday morning, June 10. Cliver was taken into custody on a warrant that was issued for her arrest on June 4. She was booked into the Greene County Jail at 6:12 a.m. Cliver then appeared in court for her initial hearing yesterday/Thursday and was formally charged with:

  • Burglary, a Level 5 felony, and

  • Criminal trespassing, a Class A misdemeanor.

The charges against Cliver stem from an incident that occurred on Wednesday afternoon, May 26, that was investigated by GCSD Deputy William C. Walker with assistance from Sgt. Jordan Allor.

Around 4:30 that Wednesday, dispatch got a call from a family member of Cliver’s requesting a welfare check on her. When the deputies responded, they were advised Cliver might not have been taking medication prescribed after a recent diagnosis.

When the deputies went to Cliver’s residence, another family member said Cliver had left a couple of hours earlier and was last seen walking into the entrance of the Greene County Shrine Club.

The deputies then located Cliver at the Shrine Club property, sitting on the porch of a camper that was set up there. Another family member who was sitting there as well said they had found Cliver at the camper and stopped to try and get Cliver to go back home.

Cliver allegedly said she’d been walking and stopped at the camper for a drink. She said she knew the owner and it was ok, but when Deputy Walker contacted the owner, the owner said he did not want Cliver on his property, that Cliver had never been invited there and that he wanted her trespassed from his property.

When Cliver was advised the owner did not want her there, she got up to walk inside the camper. When Sgt. Allor told her she could not be inside, Cliver said she’d already been inside to get an alcoholic beverage out of the refrigerator and that she’d left her cell phone inside. After consulting with the owner, she was allowed to retrieve her cell phone.

Cliver allegedly said she had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and had not been taking her medication. After Sgt. Allor advised her it would be a good idea for her to go to the hospital for an evaluation, the family member drove her to Greene County General with Sgt. Allor and Deputy Walker following them there. Once there, paperwork was filled out for an immediate detention of Cliver since she had not been taking her medication and had entered private property.

A report about the incident was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office and last week a criminal case was filed against Cliver.

The owner had said he was in favor of pressing charges against Cliver for entering the camper and taking an alcoholic beverage. Deputy Walker reported that the owner said he has had problems in the past with Cliver showing up at his house.

When Cliver was booked in, her bond was set at $10,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. Following her initial hearing, she posted $1,000 and was released from custody.
