A Linton man, arrested in Bloomfield last month, was in court Thursday on charges of possession of marijuana, paraphernalia and a controlled substance.

William David Hunter Barnes, 18, Linton, was arrested by Lt. Marvin Holt of the Bloomfield Police Department early Saturday, June 20.

When Hunter appeared in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing, he was charged with:

Possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor,
Possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor, and
Possession of a controlled substance, a Class A misdemeanor.

Barnes was the driver of a silver 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee pulled over in a traffic stop late on Friday, June 19. The license plate lights were out. Lt. Holt saw the vehicle westbound in Bloomfield, then initiated the stop when Barnes turned off State Road 54 just west of the bridge west of town. There was one passenger on board.

Lt. Holt reported he could smell the odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle. During the course of the stop, Lt. Holt learned they had just come from Worthington where they had smoked a lot.

Barnes was allegedly in possession of a container in his pocket that he said contained THC, a smoking device in the center console with burnt residue believed to be burnt marijuana, and a baggie in the glove box containing four pills identified as tramadol – a Schedule IV controlled substance.

The passenger was released from the scene.

Barnes was booked into the Greene County Jail before 12:30 a.m. Saturday. His bond was set at $2,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He posted $200, was released and given a day to appear in court.
