A welfare check in late October on a Linton man resulted in immediate medical attention, followed by a later arrest. Last Tuesday he was charged with possession of methamphetamine.

Michael Breyland Tatlock, 25, Linton, is in the Greene County Jail. When he was in Greene Superior Court last week for an initial hearing, he was charged with possession of methamphetamine, a Level 5 felony, and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.

A public defender was appointed to represent him and his bond was set at $12,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. Since the hearing last Tuesday, he has not posted bond.

Tatlock was charged following an investigation by Deputy James Carpenter of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department into an incident that occurred back on October 26, 2020.

Deputy Carpenter was dispatched to an apartment residence on I Street NE in Linton to do a welfare check on Tatlock. Dispatch advised Deputy Carpenter that Tatlock was reported to be tearing up the residence and that he had stolen a handgun from a family member.

Deputy Carpenter reported that when he arrived, he could hear Tatlock yelling and banging on things. He advised dispatch that he suspected Tatlock was having a mental episode and he was standing by until other officers arrived to assist.

GCSD Det. Shawn Cullison was dispatched and Officer Debbie McDonald and Officer Orry Phipps from the Linton Police Department responded along with ISP Trooper Eric Nash.

Some of the other tenants of the apartment were asked to leave the building while officers secured the building and parking lot areas.

When Det. Cullison made contact with Tatlock, Tatlock came down from the second-floor apartment and when he exited the building, he was detained, then agreed for officers to enter and secure the apartment.

Deputy Cullison reported that inside the apartment, a Glock 40 semi-auto handgun, with the slide off, was in plain view in the living room and another semi-auto handgun, a Rock Island, was located on the bathroom floor. They also seized a crystal substance on the kitchen table that field-tested positive as methamphetamine as well as a pipe containing a plant material and a crystal substance.

Tatlock was cooperative and told the officers he did not feel like harming himself, that he hadn’t done anything wrong and he just wanted to leave.

GCSD Deputy Jordan Gooding also responded to the scene and transported Tatlock to a hospital in Terre Haute for an emergency detention.

In early November, a criminal case was filed against Tatlock and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Tatlock was later taken into custody by Linton Police Chief Paul Clark, on Tuesday, December 22. When he was first booked into jail, he was held without bond pending his court appearance last Tuesday.
