Linton man charged with domestic battery
After an LPD officer, a GCSD deputy and a JPD officer responded to an active domestic dispute and talked to two women who both appeared to have been battered, a Linton man was arrested then charged with domestic battery.
Albert Craig McCampbell, 35, Linton, was arrested by Officer Alan Jackson of the Linton Police Department on Thursday night, July 8.
Last Thursday, July 15, when he appeared in Greene Superior Court for his initial hearing, he was formally charged with domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor.
Officer Jackson was dispatched to an active domestic on 3rd Street NW in Linton around 6:30 p.m. after LPD Dispatch got a call from a woman who said an incident was happening between the caller, McCampbell, and another woman. The caller said McCampbell had thrown Pepsi on her, grabbed her by the hair and jerked her off a couch.
A GCSD deputy and a Jasonville police officer also responded to assist on the scene.
When Officer Jackson talked to the two women at the residence, both family members of McCampbell, they said the altercation had been going on for a number of hours, and one said a cycle of abuse had been going on for a number of years. Officer Jackson details their stories in a probable cause affidavit, which also indicates a fear of retaliation if they talked to law enforcement.
McCampbell denied the accusations but Officer Jackson wrote that given the totality of the circumstances, McCampbell was taken into custody and transported to the Greene County Jail where he was booked in at 8:38 p.m.
McCampbell’s bond was set at $1,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He has since posted bond and been released.
