Linton man arrested when LPD assists Cloverdale police with theft investigation

While assisting another department via the execution of a search warrant on Dec. 6, officers from the Linton Police Department located  illegal drugs and drug-related items at a Second Street Northwest Linton home.

Linton Police Department Chief Paul Clark and officers Cayden Walker, Davis Aerne, and Mitchell Eberhardt were providing assistance to the Cloverdale Police Department by executing a search warrant at the home of Robert Liberty Peters, 50, Linton. Officers were searching the residence for a GPS tracking device as well as clothing worn in a theft in Cloverdale. 

During the search, officers located a shotgun. Peters is not allowed to own a firearm due to his conviction of domestic battery. The clothes in question were also located in the same room as the firearm.

During a search of the residence, officers located a red and black smoking device containing burnt residue with the odor of burnt marijuana coming from it. Also located were multiple clear baggies containing green plant-like material and a plastic bag containing white paper-like material with yellow wax-like substance. A piece of aluminum foil with yellow wax-like substance was also located. A clear mason jar containing multiple white hand rolled marijuana roaches and a clear, blue, and red multicolor glass smoking device containing burnt residue and green plant-like material was also found. Also located was a white and red plastic straw containing white powder-like residue. This substance field tested positive for methamphetamine.  

Peters was transported to Greene County Jail and initially held without bond. After his initial hearing in Greene Superior Court, a bond of $6,000 surety with 10 percent allowed was set. 

At his initial hearing, he was formally charged with: 

  • Possession of Methamphetamine, a Level 6 Felony

  • Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Domestic Batterer, a Class A Misdemeanor

  • Possession of Marijuana, a Class B Misdemeanor

  • Possession of Paraphernalia, a Class C Misdemeanor
