Linton man arrested for violating a protective order
A Linton man was arrested Wednesday for violating a protective order that was issued in late August after he was arrested in a domestic battery case. He was taken into custody when officers saw him with the protected person.
Jonathon Dewayne Smith, 32, Linton, was arrested by Deputy Devan Goad of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department on Wednesday, September 23.
Deputy Goad and Deputy Alan Jackson were on routine patrol Wednesday on County Road 200 North when they noticed a blue Ford Taurus pull into a driveway. When the driver got out of the vehicle, they recognized her as the protected person who has an active protective order in place against Smith.
When the deputies turned around and went back, they saw Smith walking and they stopped.
According to Deputy Goad, the investigating officer, the protected person admitted she and Smith drove to that location to look at a vehicle.
Deputy Goad said the protective order was served to Smith at the Greene County Courthouse at 2 p.m. on Monday, August 31.
Deputy Goad said Smith was in violation of the protective order and committed the offense of invasion of privacy. Smith was taken into custody and transported to the sheriff’s department where he was booked in to jail at 6:39 p.m. He was being held without bond pending court appearance.
Invasion of privacy in violation of a protective order is a Class A misdemeanor.
