Linton man arrested for trespassing

A Linton man, who had been warned by an officer not to return to a gas station in Linton, was arrested when he returned later the same day.

Joshua Tobias Cox

Joshua Tobias Cox, 37, Linton, was arrested by Officer Joe Riley of the Linton Police Department last Friday night, July 31.

Officer Riley and LPD Officer John Agan were dispatched to the Sunoco gas station on A Street NE in Linton around 7:30 p.m. last Friday because Cox was there even though he had been given a notice not to trespass on the property.

The officers found Cox on the west side of the parking lot and when he talked to Officer Riley, he said he didn’t know that he couldn’t go back. He said he only went into the station to ask for a cup of water but the clerk denied his request and called police.

Earlier in the day, LPD Sgt. Logan Hobbs had given Cox a warning not to trespass on the property but Cox said he thought he only had to leave at that time.

Officer Riley told Cox he was being arrested for criminal trespassing.

During a search, Cox was allegedly found to be in possession of a syringe which he said he had used earlier in the day to inject methamphetamine.

Cox was booked in around 8:20 p.m. to the Greene County Jail where his bond was set at $5,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He has since posted $500 and been released.

Cox is facing preliminary charges of criminal trespassing, a Class A misdemeanor, and unlawful possession of a syringe, a Level 6 felony.
