Linton man arrested for OVWI after parking lot crash

A Linton man with previous convictions for OVWI was arrested after hitting another vehicle in a store’s parking lot. He posted bond and got out of jail but is now back in jail for a probation violation.

Chadd Eric Anderson

Chadd Eric Anderson, 48, Linton, was arrested by Chief Paul Clark of the Linton Police Department on Monday, August 24. His bond was set at $8,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He posted $800 and was released the next day.

He was scheduled to be in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing yesterday, Monday, August 31, but at the courthouse, he was arrested by Greene County Courthouse Security Officer Patrick Fulford. His initial hearing was rescheduled.

The arrest on August 24 occurred when Chief Clark responded to a crash in the parking lot at Walmart in Linton. Around 3:15 p.m. that day, a caller reported the crash and said the driver, later identified as Anderson, appeared to be intoxicated.

Anderson admitted he was the driver of a white 2008 Dodge Ram and said while he was parking his truck, he crashed into a car. The officer said he could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Anderson and Anderson allegedly admitted he had consumed several beers. Alcoholic beverages were in plain view inside the cab of the truck.

Chief Clark reported Anderson failed field sobriety testing on the scene, then failed again after he was transported to the police department. The results of a certified chemical test showed Anderson had a BAC of .224. The legal limit is .08.

Anderson’s criminal record includes previous convictions involving operating a vehicle while intoxicated. In one of those cases, he was on probation and after the latest arrest, the Greene County Probation Department filed a petition to revoke his suspended sentence. A warrant was issued for his arrest and he was taken into custody at the courthouse.

Now Anderson is back in the Greene County Jail where he’s being held without bond. He is scheduled to be in court tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday, September 2, for an initial hearing in one case and another hearing about his suspended sentence in the other.

In the latest case, he is facing charges of:

  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor,

  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person with a prior within seven years, a Level 6 felony,

  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor,

  • Operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent to .15 or more, a Class A misdemeanor, and
