Linton man arrested and charged with child molestation
After a situation involving possible child molestation was reported to a trusted adult, a fast-moving investigation by the Linton Police Department resulted in the arrest of an 18-year-old man. When he appeared in court today, he was child with three counts of felony child molestation.
Logan Lee Pruitt, 18, of Linton, was arrested very early last Friday, August 30, following an investigation led by Sgt. Logan Hobbs of the Linton Police Department.
The investigation started the afternoon of Thursday, August 29, after a student at Linton-Stockton Schools disclosed information to a teacher. Linton-Stockton School Resource Officer Josh Goodman then reported a possible child molestation to the Linton Police Department.
By 2:43 p.m., LPD Officer Kyle Robison was dispatched to conduct initial interviews with the possible victim and family members.
Before 5 p.m., Sgt. Hobbs was called in.
Based on information obtained in the interviews, Sgt. Hobbs obtained permission to search a residence in Linton where alleged incidents had taken place. Sgt. Hobbs and LPD Officer John Agan executed the search, taking photographs and collecting potential items of evidence such as sheets and blankets.
At some point, Pruitt, the suspect, was located, detained and transported to the Linton Police Department and around 11:30 p.m., Sgt. Hobbs sat down with Pruitt for an interview after he was advised of his rights and agreed to speak to the officer.
Sgt. Hobbs reported that Pruitt first denied having any sexual contact with the alleged victim but Sgt. Hobbs noted numerous inconsistencies in his story and Pruitt then gave a “truthful account” of his contact with the alleged victim, admitting numerous acts of inappropriate sexual conduct. The alleged victim is under the age of 14.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed in this case, both the alleged victim and Pruitt said incidents of molestation had occurred over a period of at least four years.
When Sgt. Hobbs asked Pruitt how many times sexual contact had occurred since his eighteenth birthday in July of 2019, he allegedly said three times.
Before 1:30 a.m., Pruitt had been arrested by Sgt. Hobbs and booked into the Greene County Jail.
Later on the day of his arrest last Friday, August 30, the alleged victim had a forensic interview at Susie’s Place in Bloomington. Sgt. Hobbs reported the victim provided a detailed account of various incidents over the course of several years and the information given did not contradict the information provided during the first interviews.
Today, Thursday, September 5, Pruitt appeared before Judge Eric Allen in Greene Circuit Court for his initial hearing when he was charged with child molesting – the basic child molesting offense, a Level 3 felony, and two counts of child molesting – fondling or touching with a child under 14, both as Level 4 felonies.
During the hearing, a public defender was appointed to represent Pruitt and his bond was set at $25,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. As of Thursday evening, Pruitt had not posted bond and was still in jail.
This was a fast-moving investigation. It was less than 12 hours from the time the police department got the call until a suspect was in jail. Sgt. Hobbs prepared a lengthy probable cause affidavit detailing the information shared in the interviews. Overall, his affidavit indicates the individuals interviewed were cooperative and that both the alleged victim and Pruitt were able to describe what happened in detail. However, no further details will be included in this story on GreeneStreets.
