A Linton man accused of repeated violations of a protective order was arrested Tuesday.

Derick Scott Richards, 35, was booked into the Greene County Jail around 9:30 p.m. by Greene County Sheriff’s Detective Shawn Cullison.

The case was investigated by Officer Debbie McDonald of the Linton Police Department after a couple filed a complaint against Richards. The woman said she has had a valid protective order against Richards since December but he has continued to contact her and harass her.

Officer McDonald reported the woman described an incident that occurred on July 10 when Richards called her wanting to come to the couple’s home to get some PlayStation 3 games. She told him no, that she did not have any games.

Around 10 p.m. that night, Richards allegedly showed up at their home anyway so the man walked out to Richards’ vehicle and told him to leave and not show up again, especially that late, because he has to get up at 5 a.m. to go to work.

The woman said Richards then texted her and told her the man should not do that again because he’ll get out of the car and he wasn’t going to be pushed around.

The couple requested Richards be served with a no-trespass order.

The next day, Officer McDonald did serve and explain a no-trespass order to Richards at his residence.

In a probable cause affidavit, Officer McDonald wrote that Richards said the man was the one that told him to get off his property and that he was only there to get PlayStation games, thus admitting the violation.

A criminal case was filed against Richards and a warrant was issued for his arrest last Friday, July 20.

Richards will be charged with invasion of privacy – in violation of a protective order, a Class A misdemeanor.
