Linton man accused of threatening neighbor
A Linton man upset over a neighbor’s arcade machine in the hallway of their apartment building was also upset over roaches and allegedly said if his issues were not taken care of, hell would be had.
Austin Scott Hoke, 30, Linton, was arrested by Deputy Camron Frye of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department on Sunday, August 1. His bond was set at $4,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He posted $400 and was released the same day as his arrest.
When Hoke appeared in Greene Superior Court for his initial hearing last Thursday, he was formally charged with intimidation – threat is to commit a forcible felony, a Level 6 felony.
Deputy Frye was dispatched around 4:20 p.m. on August 1 to an apartment on I Street NE in Linton about a threat that was reported to Greene County Dispatch. The caller said a neighbor in her apartment building, identified as Austin Scott Hoke, had threatened to kill her. She said he was kicking her door.
Deputies had been dispatched to the same location for the same issue earlier in the day but they were unable to locate Hoke. While Deputy Frye was on the way, Hoke called 911 and said he was going to flip out if the original caller did not leave him alone.
The woman who called had purchased an arcade machine and when it was delivered, it was placed in the hallway. Hoke was upset about that and the woman said Hoke had hit it and broken the machine.
When Deputy Frye knocked on the woman’s door, he could hear Hoke in his apartment talking loudly, apparently on the telephone, about losing his cool and that he was going to lose it if the situation continued. When he heard the deputy, Hoke yelled from inside his apartment, “If you want to say something, come to my door and say it.”
When Deputy Frye talked to the woman, she said Hoke had been kicking her door, calling her a name and threatening her life, saying, “B----, I will kick in your door and I will f------ kill you.”
When Deputy Frye talked with Hoke, he allegedly said he was autistic and bipolar and had issues with roaches that he thought were coming from the woman’s apartment. He also said he was upset over the arcade machine.
Hoke allegedly admitted that he had threatened to bust down the woman’s door and throw her out. He said he had self-control but he might beat the crap out of her if she doesn’t get out. According to Deputy Frye, Hoke admitted he punched the arcade machine that he said had been sold by a cop then dragged in by two “meth heads.”
Hoke was told he needs to take his issues up with management but Hoke then stated that if roaches destroy his possessions, then nothing would stop him from getting justice for his belongings and ‘hell will be had.’
Hoke was taken into custody and transported to jail.
