Linton man accused of stealing wire from Jasonville rail yard

A deputy investigating late-night thefts of wire from a railroad yard in Jasonville arrested a suspect yesterday.

Jared Robert Chambers, 40, Linton, was arrested by Deputy James Carpenter of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department yesterday, Tuesday, March 24, and booked into the Greene County Jail around 12:30 p.m.

Deputy Carpenter has been investigating thefts of wire from the rail yard outside Jasonville.

During the early morning hours of Monday, March 23, the railroad reported wire had been stolen and in the early morning hours of Tuesday, March 24, a neighbor called the sheriff’s department and reported a UTV had been driven through his yard while stealing wire again from the rail yard.

Later in the day, on March 24, Deputy Carpenter arrested Chambers.

Chambers is facing preliminary charges of theft, a Level 5 felony, and theft with a prior unrelated conviction for either theft or conversion, a Level 6 felony, and criminal mischief, a Class A misdemeanor.

Bond for Chambers was set at $27,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He posted $2,700 and was released later the same day as his arrest.

Chambers is currently scheduled to appear in court for an initial hearing on April 27.
